Advancing GIS for Infrastructure

Bentley’s corporate mission is to help improve the world’s infrastructure. We do this through providing a complete portfolio of GIS, Civil, Plant, and Building solutions. Our core GIS solutions include:

mapping;

map publishing;

cadastre management;

and many others built upon MicroStation.

Taking advantage of Oracle Spatial, we uniquely offer both a two-tier approach and a full enterprise solution based on the Bentley Geospatial Server. Our solutions also include robust web publishing and mobile capabilities. Sophisticated engineering and analysis industry applications for Water, Wastewater, Electric, Gas, and Communications networks complete our GIS offerings.

For local governments, we have created the Municipal License Subscription. This one-of-a-kind program allows departments across local governments to use any of Bentley’s software offerings under one fixed annual fee based on population.

Bentley is fully committed to the Canadian GIS Community with offices in Quebec, Toronto, and Calgary to support our rapidly expanding user base. Our largest facility in Québec is home to the geospatial architects, product managers, and development team who create the core GIS applications upon which our industry solutions are built. With 2005 revenues of over 336M, Bentley has never been stronger or more dedicated to Advancing GIS for Infrastructure.

Conseil des entreprises en rénovation cadastrale (CERC) is an association of survey firms involved in Québec’s cadastral reform program. This association is instrumental in forging a common vision among its members of the issues concerning this program proposed by the Government of Québec in 1994.

CERC works regularly with the various stakeholders, particularly Quebec’s Ministère des Ressources naturelles et de la Faune (MRNF), to improve the Québec cadastral reform program. Moreover, our representations to the Conseil du trésor and the Ordre des arpenteurs-géomètres du Québec in defence of some of the related issues have resulted in benefits for all users of Quebec’s cadastre.

Finally, CERC’s objective is to promote good relationships and close cooperation between the MRNF and surveyors working to carry out this ambitious initiative known as the cadastral reform.

Earth Sciences Sector

The Earth Sciences Sector (ESS) is one of five sectors within Natural Resources Canada. It is the Government of Canada's principal Earth sciences agency, providing Canadians with timely and reliable geomatics and geoscience knowledge. ESS supports the environmental, social, and economic priorities of the federal government by focusing its science and technology programs on innovative projects that improve the quality of life of Canadians. The Sector also shares its knowledge and expertise in partnerships and cost-recovery projects with clients around the world. The generation and dissemination of information that contributes to the well-being of Canadian citizens is at the forefront of all ESS activities. More information ...

The Sector primarily consists of the Geological Survey of Canada and Geomatics Canada. In addition, three national initiatives, the Polar Continental Shelf Project, GeoConnections, and the Climate Change Impacts and Adaptation Directorate are housed in the Sector on behalf of the Canadian Government.

GeoConnections is a national partnership program to evolve and expand the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI). The CGDI provides Canadians with on-demand access to geographic information and related services and applications in support of sound decision making. Between 1999 and 2005, in its first phase, GeoConnections established partnerships with technology companies and content suppliers, which then developed content, tools and standardized services through the CGDI. In June 2005, the Government of Canada announced $60 million in renewed funding for the second phase of GeoConnections from 2005 to 2010. The renewed GeoConnections program is addressing the needs of users in four priority areas: sustainable development and the environment, matters of importance to Aboriginal Peoples, public health and public safety/security.

Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Science Sector

Being on the cutting edge of marine science is the name of the game at Fisheries and Oceans Canada - and for good reason.

Canada is a maritime nation. Our country has the longest coastline in the world, the longest inland waterway, largest archipelago and shares the world's largest freshwater system.

Understanding the three oceans that surround Canada as well as its waterways and aquatic resources is crucial if we want to ensure their sustainability. Mastering that understanding is the challenge that scientists face each day at Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

Future challenges include addressing the government’s commitment to sustainable development; understanding climate changes in relation to the oceans; expanding aquaculture production in a sustainable manner; species at risk legislation; restructuring our workforce; and rebuilding program integrity and financial stability.

Hydro-Québec generates, transmits and distributes electricity, mainly using renewable energy sources, in particular hydroelectricity. It also conducts research in energy-related fields and takes an active interest in energy efficiency. In addition, it works to create value from the technologies that emerge from its research.
