These organizations have agreed to pool their resources and work together to make GeoConference 2007 an enjoyable event that will bring together the entire geocommunity. The organizing committee is made up of representatives from each partner organization and from the geomatic industry.
The Canadian Institute of Geomatics is the oldest Canadian association in the field of geomatics. It was founded in 1882, and its mission is to promote the development of geomatics in Canada. Today, it is the country’s best source of geomatics contacts and knowledge. It has around 800 members in twelve sections around Canada. Champlain branch covers Eastern Québec, and is recognized as one of the most dynamic sections in Canada. Ordre des arpenteurs-géomètres du Québec The Corporation des arpenteurs-géomètres du Québec was founded in 1882, and became the Ordre des arpenteurs-géomètres du Québec in 1974. The main goal of the Order is to protect the public through activities that focus on professional inspection, professional development and discipline. It also sets standards of practice and by-laws to guide its members. The Order’s membership includes all individuals legally entitled to practice land surveying in Québec on an exclusive basis. It currently has around 1000 members. Université Laval The first French-language university in North America and first university in Canada, Université Laval offers over 350 programs to 36,000 students. It is one of Canada’s largest teaching and research universities. It traces its history back to 1663, when Monseigneur de Laval, the first bishop of New France, founded the Québec Seminary. The year 2007 marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the university’s school of surveying at the instigation of the corporation of land surveyors, which was the first university-level school of land surveying in North America. It has developed over the years, and is now known as the Département des sciences géomatiques (department of geomatics), part of the university’s Faculty of Forestry and Geomatics. It is the only French-language department in North America to offer Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral programs, and the only department in Québec that trains land surveyors. With its wide range of programs and research teams, it is recognized as a leader in the field, within the French-speaking world and internationally. Ministère des Ressources naturelles et de la Faune The Ministère des Ressources naturelles et de la Faune is Québec’s department of natural resources and wildlife, responsible for managing the province’s land base and natural resources. Its actions focus on the use and development of public land and the forest, wildlife, mineral and energy resources it contains, by developing or adapting tools to improve geographical knowledge about Québec. Within the department, Foncier Québec is responsible for keeping the registers that record the division of private and public land throughout Québec and make public the related land rights. Since 1990, Foncier Québec has launched various far-reaching reforms of the registration system for both public and private land. Québec has developed cutting-edge expertise in the management and modernization of land registration systems. GeoConference 2007 is proud to announce the support and patronage of the Fédération des Géomètres Francophones (FGF) and the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG).
