Take a step back in time and visit the only walled city north of Mexico. This enclave of cobbled lanes and winding streets weaves together monuments, museums, churches, shops and outdoor cafes. See and feel the unique "old world" ambiance of Québec City. Old Québec will offer you pleasant surprises at every turn. The tour gives an overview of the St. Louis Gate (one of the principal entrances to the Old City), the Fortifications, – an impressive 2.5 mile-long rampart encircling the old city, museums, churches, the Château Frontenac, the Plains of Abraham and Place Royale. After arriving in the Old Port, you will board the Louis-Jolliet for an enjoyable lunch cruise. Along with a professional guide (dressed in New France costume), discover the bucolic charm of the Island of Orléans. Admire the Montmorency Falls, the Island of Orléans and much more! A 3-course lunch will be served on board.
Thursday, October 4, 2007: 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Minimum of 35 participants This gourmet tour will introduce you to the culture and the history of the region's first settlers. The Island of Orleans, classified as a historical district, is located in the middle of the St. Lawrence River. You will be enchanted by its beauty, its tradition and pastoral, seasonal rhythms. Also, discover the Beaupré Coast, cradled between the river and the mountains, offering unrivalled and unique attractions. This tour includes also a brief stop at the Montmorency Falls. The tour begins with a stop at the Montmorency Falls, an impressive 272-foot waterfall. On the cable car ride to the top of the falls, take in a view like no other - the St. Lawrence River, the Island of Orléans and the city are all clearly visible. The tour will continue over the bridge to the Island of Orléans. Discover the tip of the Island and the charming village of Sainte-Pétronille, the works of local artists and craftsmen, and, of course, the ever-present and majestic St. Lawrence. The first stop will be at the En-tailleur sugar shack, for a true French Canadian Taste! This family-run maple sugar farm reflects the lumberjacks' way of life in the late 1800s. The participants will visit the rustic site, learn about the making of maple products and enjoy taffy on snow! Before leaving the Island, stop in a bio-certified farm operation located on a 15-hectare (30-acre) estate along the St. Lawrence River. The site is composed of an ancestral home, a 4,000-tree apple orchard, ducks and geese, a cider house, a vinegar factory, and an interpretation centre with an open kitchen for processing home-grown products. A guided visit of the site in a New France ambiance will be provided as well and sample tastings of their products (cider, mustard, jelly etc.).
